Sing Son Sing

These days, as I move closer to a divorce, I have been intentionally looking for God in the small everyday moments of my day. Last night, that moment was when my son David was singing in the bath tub.

For those of you that don’t know David, he is very outgoing, funny, loves being around people, and wears his heart out on his sleeve (just like his mama). He loves sports and is super competitive. He also has the gift of gab, and when he enters a room, the energy of the room goes up a few notches.

So last night as the house was quiet and I sat with my mother talking about the day, there came the sweet melody from the bathroom. I instantly felt this calm spirit come over me and I knew God was in that moment. God was whispering in my ear, “Sarah, you are going to be ok. Do you hear your son, David, singing in the midst of calamity? So should you, for I am with you.”

Where is my Wedding Band?

I met with a lawyer on last Friday to get a better grasp on how divorce might happen for Brandon and I. Here are the two words that sum up the end of 15 years of marriage: Irreconcilable Differences.

I am beyond sad.

All the legal words that goes into all these documents can’t even tip the surface as to the amount of heart and soul that went into my marriage.

This is raw; this is uncharted territory when it comes to what I am feeling. The only thing that keeps me going is that I know God is before me.

Hold Fast to Him! -Deuteronomy 11:22

Prayer Beads

The prayer beads that Pastor Patty Bergfield gave me.
I was recently given a set of prayer beads by our new Associate Pastor. She found out that my hobby is to make jewelry and she thought I would be interested in prayer beads. She was right! Not only am I interested in making them, but I have been interested in making my prayer life deeper by praying them.

I don't know about you, I have always felt my prayer life could use an overhaul. With the prayer beads, Pastor Patty gave me a prayer book called, Praying With Beads: Daily Prayers for the Christian Year. Awesome tool in helping with the overhaul of my prayer life.

Having tools for your faith journey are necessary. I have many and here are some:
  • Journal (that I write in every now and then)
  • (for Bible reading)
  • Devotionals (I especially like Kay Arthur and Warren Wiersbe)
  • Christian Books (recent favorite author is Adam Hamilton)
  • Christian Conferences (WCA Leadership Summit and Catalyst)
  • Prayer Beads
  • Listening to KSBJ our local Christian radio station
  • and so on...
What are some of your tools that help you on your faith walk? Do you have prayer beads?

I’m a recovering Pharisee

Read a great blog post today from a person I love to follow from Granger Community Church. Here is a taste...

I’ve known that I’ve been a recovering Pharisee for several years now. Most of my adult life, I wasn’t recovering, I was just a Pharisee. Recovering means I’ve become aware of my propensity to manage my image, win the approval of people and make my life more about religion and compliance than Jesus and obedience. Yeah, there’s a more of Mark Waltz's posts

What do you think? I think I need to read the book that he has been reading, The Tangible Kingdom.

Kim's shoes...what kind of news is this?

Today I read an article in Yahoo News about how many pairs of shoes Kim Kardashian has in her closet. They are all colored coded and beautifully displayed. The article right next to it was about how immigrants in India can't afford any place to sleep so they sleep in the parking lots.

Really, are Kim's shoes really news? Why is this important? I bet you could sell all her shoes and pay for all those immigrant workers to have a nice clean hotel room.

Tell me your thoughts.

Someone Worth Dying For

I really love the lyrics to this song...

You Tube Video

Album: A Beautiful Life

You might be the wife waiting up at night
You might be the man struggling to provide
Feeling like it’s hopeless

Maybe you’re the son who chose a broken road
Maybe you’re the girl thinking you’ll end up alone
Praying “God, can you hear me?
Oh God, are you listening?”

Am I more than flesh and bone?
Am I really something beautiful?
Yeah, I wanna believe, I wanna believe that
I’m not just some wandering soul
That you don’t see and you don’t know
Yeah, I wanna believe,
Jesus, help me believe that
I am someone worth dying for

I know you’ve heard the truth that God has set you free
But you think you’re the one that grace could never reach
So you just keep askin’, oh, what everybody’s askin’

You’re worth it, you can’t earn it
Yeah, the cross has proven
That you’re sacred and blameless
Your life has purpose

You are more than flesh and bone
Can’t you see you’re something beautiful
Yeah, you gotta believe, you gotta believe
He wants you to see, He wants you to see that
You’re not just some wandering soul
That can’t be seen and can’t be known
Yeah, you gotta believe, you gotta believe that
You are someone worth dying for
You’re someone worth dying for
You’re someone worth dying for
